Q. What is the yield on a 5lb bag of mussels?
You should get about 100 mussels in a five lb page. Some restaurants would get 5-6 individual orders from the size of bag.
Q. When are fresh blue mussels in season?
Our mussels are farmed and harvested all year round so are always in season.
Q. What is the standard serving size for mussels as an appetizer? Main Course?
For an appetizer about 3/4 to 1 pound per person. For a main course 1 pound to 1 1/2 pound per person
Q. Do I need to feed live mussels before cooking?
No, just store them properly – see instruction on our site
Q. Does coral colored mussel meat taste different from pale mussel meat?
Mussels have two colors because they have two sexes – the coral ones are female and the cream ones are males and they taste exactly the same!
Q. Can I freeze live mussels?
No, you will kill them. You can however freeze cooked mussels provided you cover them completely with broth.
Q. Why are mussels often included for romantic menu specials?
Mussels are a natural aphrodisiac and a perfect choice for a romantic meal – it is also a terrific sharing dish as well.
