Cooking Mussels in Boston

Chefs taste and learn

Charlottetown, PEI, March 12, 2010
– The Mussel Industry Council, located in Canada, will be participating in a seafood showcase at the Boston Seafood Show on Monday March 15, 2010. Presented by the Boston University Culinary Arts School and ACOA, Feast Your Senses, is a demonstration of non-traditional mussel and lobster recipes.

“We are very excited that 60 top New England chefs will have the opportunity to experience different ways to prepare mussels,” said Linda Duncan, Executive Director, Mussel Industry Council. “As well, we plan to talk to them about the great health and environmental benefits which mussels bring to the table.”
Fresh Canadian blue cultured mussels are high in Omega 3s, low in fat (2.2 g fat per 100 g mussel meat) and have high levels of daily requirements for zinc, vitamin C and iron. They have also achieved international recognition as a sustainable seafood.
“Recently, Monterey Bay Aquarium identified cultured farmed mussels as “Super Green” explains Duncan. “This means it is a food that is good for human health and does not harm the oceans.”
The Super Green list highlights products that are currently on the Seafood Watch “Best Choices” (green) list. They feed naturally with no additives and their seed is also collected naturally from the environment where they are grown.
