Cooking Mussels Three Ways

Three hot New Recipes

New York, NY, March 3, 2010 – The Mussel Industry Council, located in Canada, showcased three of its best recipes yesterday at the International Restaurant and Food Service Show in New York City. Chef Allan Williams demonstrated how to cook mussels three different ways to show the versatility of the product. He prepared Mussels Thai Style, Marinated Mussel Pasta Salad with a citrus vinaigrette and Mussels Bruschetta.

“These are three great recipes that highlight the great taste of mussels,” said Allan Williams, Chef, Mussel Industry Council. “Our goal is to show people how easy it is to make great tasting dishes with mussels. Mussels are such a healthy and good food.”
Chef Williams also discussed the features of fresh blue cultured mussels. They are high in Omega 3s, low in fat (2.2 g fat per 100 g mussel meat) and have high levels of the daily requirements for zinc, vitamin C and Iron.
“Mussels have also achieved international recognition as a sustainable seafood,” added Linda Duncan, Executive Director, Mussel Industry Council. “This means it is a food that is good for human health and does not harm the oceans. This, combined with its health attributes, really makes fresh blue cultured mussels a perfect food.”
Recently, Monterey Bay Aquarium identified cultured Farm Mussels as “Super Green”. The Super Green list highlights products that are currently on the Seafood Watch “Best Choices” (green) list. They feed naturally with no additives and their seed is also collected naturally from the environment where they are grown. Mussel’s nutritional information can be found at www.discovermussels.com.
