Mussel Industry Council Flexing Mussels

At International Restaurant and Food Service Show in New York

New York, NY, March 1, 2010 – The Mussel Industry Council, located in Canada, is hosting the world at their booth at the International Restaurant and Food Service Show in New York City. When you drop by their booth you will be treated to Fresh Blue Cultured Mussels prepared a variety of different ways.

“We plan to serve 500 pounds of fresh blue cultured mussels over the next three days,” says Linda Duncan, Executive Director, Mussel Industry Council. “Our chefs are cooking the mussels using three great recipes that will really highlight their fabulous taste and texture.”

Throughout the show, three chefs will be cooking traditional Steamed Mussels in Broth, Mussel Bruschetta and a Marinated Mussel Salad. Tastings of all three will be available at all times.

“Mussels are a tasty and healthy food that can be prepared many different ways,” says Duncan. “We are excited to be able to introduce visitors from around the world to the various flavours of fresh blue cultured mussels.”
Fresh blue cultured mussels are not only delicious, they are high in Omega 3s, low in fat (2.2 g fat per 100 g mussel meat) and have high levels of daily requirements for zinc, vitamin C and Iron. Mussels have also achieved international recognition as sustainable seafood. Recently, Monterey Bay Aquarium has identified cultured Farm Mussels as “Super Green”, meaning that it is good for human health and does not harm the oceans. The Super Green list highlights products that are currently on the Seafood Watch “Best Choices” (green) list. They feed naturally with no additives and their seed is also collected naturally from the environment where they are grown.
Drop by booth 1275 and enjoy a great feast and learn more about fresh blue cultured mussels. Information and recipes will be readily available.
