Crispy Blue Mussels

Description

 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh cultured blue mussel meats, cooked and shucked
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

Instructions


  1. Rinse fresh blue mussels in tap water.

  2. Place in large pot and steam until the shells open (5-7 minutes).

  3. Take the mussel meat out of the shells (discard shells)  

  4. Roll the mussels in bread crumbs.  

  5. Beat egg and combine with water.      

  6. Dip breaded mussels in egg mixture then roll in crumbs again.  

  7. Drop into the vegetable oil heated to 375 degrees F (190 C) for 2-3 minutes.  

  8. Drain well.  Serve as is or try dipping in your favourite Aioli, mayo or sauce.
